Since its founding in 1993 by healthcare workers from Pas-de-Calais – Picardie, France, the Eurospital Football Tournament has grown into a vibrant annual tradition that unites European health service workers through the beautiful game. More than just a competition, Eurospital fosters friendship, wellness, and cross-border camaraderie among hospital staff from across the continent.
🌍 Participating Nations and Teams
Each year, up to 16 teams from various European countries take part, representing hospitals and health service organizations. Regular participants include:
- Germany – GLG Werner Forßmann Klinikum Eberswalde
- France – CHU Lille, CH Douai, CH Arras
- Portugal – Multiple regional hospital teams
- Ireland, Italy, Spain, Slovenia, Scotland, England, Luxembourg, and others
Teams are composed of current health service workers, with eligibility extending to long-term contributors to healthcare.

Eurospital rotates its host country annually, with tournaments held in:
- San Marino
- Denmark
- Ireland
- Spain
- Austria (Zell am See)
- Portugal (Albufeira)
- Scotland (Glasgow – Garscube Sports Centre)
Each host is responsible for organizing accommodation, transport, and tournament logistics, ensuring a seamless experience for all participants.

The tournament has seen fierce but friendly competition over the decades. Notable champions include:
- Germany (Eberswalder Klinik) – Multiple-time winners, including 2023 bronze and 2024 silver, narrowly losing to Slovenia in a dramatic penalty shootout
